Utrinek PEACE CAFE:Dragi vsi, nekaj zelo lepega sem pravkar prebrala: Vsako sredo se romarji, pohodniki in člani ekipe zberejo virtualno, in vsako sredo izberejo temo, o kateri bi govorili. Lahko bi rekli, da je to del ŠOLE ZA MIR, ki smo jo kot sestavni del Pohoda za mir napovedovali. Ena od članic osrednje ekipe, Mareike iz Nemčije, nam je poslala svoje razmišljanje na temo, o kateri je bilo govora prejšnjič. To je bilo razmišljanje o vlogi tišine v prizadevanjih za mir, tako nekako. Njeno pisanje me je precej pretreslo in ga želim tu podelit z vami, da boste videli, kaj vse se dogaja znotraj tega "Pohoda za mir". Pustim v angleščini, kot sem dobila:"The Week of CourageReflection on Peacewalk QuestionsMareike BrandtOver the last five days, we asked when silence becomes a cost for the soul to bear, and what it truly takes to find courage in situations in which we rather withdraw. Here I would like to share my reflection on what is emerging from our shared journey.1. From Silence as Sanctuary to Speaking your TruthThe week before, we remembered that silence can be a sanctuary where peace can be nurtured. Yet, I also know there is another silence, a silence more like a hiding place, a shelter where we stay quiet to keep an “easy peace.”Today I am in Lippstadt, Germany, where I grew up. In this town a German peacebuilder, killed by the Nazi-regime, first stood as a young pastor: Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In his life he embodied a principle he wrote about as “costly grace”.To him an unspoken rule is not a safety net, but a trap that keeps us under a spell of an ill system. He learned that “keeping the peace” from a place of comfort, often means selling one’s soul. He didn’t only see that, but experienced it.I know this trap myself very well, from another setting. At 18, after stopping a violent fight between my parents, I told my mother, “I am done with all these lies.” For years, we had lived a quiet lie. Inside, there was fighting; outside, we performed as “perfect family.” In this setting I learned to tiptoe, to stay quiet so I could be nice and loved - still today it takes courage for me to break that spell of staying silent for an “easy peace” at times.Dietrich BonhoefferPastor Bonhoeffer taught us that this silence has a cost - in both our small families and our big worlds. It is not paid in money, but in the currency of our souls. Every time we choose to hide instead of speaking our truth, we get lost in this self made prison more deeply. So we can ask ourselves: Is my silence a sanctuary that nurtures my truth? Or a hiding place that provides the comfort of what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace”?2. The Illusion of Easy PeaceWe all know these invisible rules. “Don’t make waves.” “Don’t speak your feelings.” These rules create a cage where mostly one person holds power, while the rest hold their breath. Often, we don’t even know the rules exist. So how do we find them?I found that the key was to listen to my body. A cramp in your stomach. A lump in your throat. A tight chest. When you feel off, you are likely touching an unspoken rule. In my family, the rule was silence. I only broke it when I moved away and was finally able to speak up about what was so heavy on my chest. It wasn’t to blame, but to connect -at first- to myself, much later to my parents. Sometimes silence doesn’t build true peace; it must be earned with the courage to break the spell of a comfortable lie.3. The Revolution of the Tiny ActBonhoeffer teaches us that true discipleship is not a feeling, but a costly choice. It is the refusal to accept “Cheap Grace” when the world demands we wear a mask. The “tiny act” we chose this week is not necessarily to speak louder, but to wake up. It is the decision to leave the comfort zone of an unconscious silence. Sometimes, the most costly act is to speak a seemingly hard truth. However, it can also mean to remain silent with full awareness, choosing presence over fear.It took me years to realize that my view is just one pebble. To me it feels that the courage that is needed, is to admit that my personal view is just one pebble in a mosaic. Many voices—one path. If I cling to being “right,” I cannot see the other beautiful pebbles in the mosaic. True courage is saying, “Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I can learn.”We wear masks because we fear we aren’t good enough. But the risk of taking them off is the freedom to be loved as we are. When we stop judging ourselves so harshly, we stop judging others. We stop seeing enemies and start seeing humans.4. The Wisdom of Holding TruthYet, there is a danger in speaking up. I felt it when I first spoke to my parents, after I had moved out. I spoke out of hurt and with anger. Anger is a powerful energy that can set us free, but courage without humility can become a weapon.We need to learn to ask: Am I speaking to heal? Or to prove I am right?As Bonhoeffer put it:“Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.”To me this is the essence of our week. True courage is not the arrogance of certainty, but the humility of truth. It is the strength to hold our convictions firmly while holding our egos loosely. If our truth crushes someone else, it is not peace; but it might become another form of violence.Bonhoeffer also wrote:“The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community.”Choosing to forgive, when it was safer to hate, is a tiny act. But it is a rebellion. It costs comfort and the illusion of being right. But it is the only way to build a real home for us all, so another world really is possible.The Path AheadThis week’s questions have shown us that courage is the language of truth. But when that honesty reveals a wound, what then?Next week, let us explore the theme of forgiveness. So we feel those wounds and find ways to set down the heavy burden of the past and open a path towards a lighter future.Let the courage we cultivated this week be a seed and grow quietly.Thank you for walking this path together." ...
